Understanding & Configuring Case Types

Learn how to set up custom Case Types to keep your work with entrepreneurs organized and trackable

Before diving in here read about the difference between Contacts and Cases.

Let's look at how to configure Case Types in ERM so you can keep your work organized and streamlined.

First, go to the Case Types section on your left sidebar.

This is where all your Case Types live. You can see the number of cases of each type and the stages associated with that case.

Every configuration of ERM has at least one Case Type: Intake.

To edit an existing Case Type, click the three dots in the corner.

To create a new Case Type, click the "+ Add Case Type" button in the upper righthand corner of the screen.

Once inside the case editor, you can add or edit the name and stages of the case.

The stages of the case should be the stages of the process or program you're running the entrepreneur through. This should help your team standardize the process, understand where an entrepreneur is in your pipeline of support, and understand the outcomes of your support.

Pro tip: Make the final stages outcome indicators for that case. In this example, one is "Funding Secured" the other is "No Funding Secured." This way, when you close your case, you can easily see the final outcome of that case.

Select the "Set a Default Stage" checkbox to always attach the first stage to any new cases that have been opened. If you don't want the first stage to be attached automatically, leave this box unchecked. There will be no stage assigned to cases by default in that case.
